The post covid era has seen consumers pursuing a healthier lifestyle, and searching for ways to achieve work-life balance and manage anxiety by focussing on wellness and preventative healthcare.  

Statista, a leading provider of market and consumer data, states that “Wellness is about making healthy lifestyle choices and maintaining one’s wellbeing both physically and mentally. In recent years, more people around the world have begun to recognize the importance of wellness – a trend which has seen the value of the industry increase year-on-year." 

The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) estimates that the global wellness economy was valued at $4.9 trillion in 2019 and predicts that it will reach nearly $7.0 trillion by 2025.

The Wellness Tourism Industry  

GWI also states that “Wellness tourism is the powerful intersection of two large and growing multi-trillion-dollar industries: tourism and wellness. Holistic health and prevention are increasingly at the center of consumer decision-making, and people now expect to continue their healthy lifestyles and wellness routines when they are away from home.” 

A 20% increase is predicted in wellness tourists over the next five years, driven by a greying population, an increasing rate of illness, and a corresponding awareness among young people of the need to remain fit and healthy.  

Wellness tourists are High Value Travellers*** (HVT). According to the Global Wellness Tourism Economy report compiled on behalf of the Global Health and Wellness Summit International, wellness tourists spend 65% more than normal tourists, while their domestic equivalents spend almost twice that of non-wellness tourists. The HVT experience of a destination starts well before they travel as they seek information on a destination as part of their experience.

What is the size of the book? 

The book size is Hard Cover US letter size – 21.59cm (width) x 27.94cm (height) and will be around 180-200 pages.  

How often will this be published? 

This is the first, and a new edition will be published every two years alongside Spa and Wellness features in each quarterly Wellness on Time magazine edition.  

What is my return on investment?  

The promotional value of your feature far exceeds the cost of investment. This book will be featured in global bookstores, as well as domestic and international marketing campaigns. In addition, you can also gain a monetary return by selling your complimentary copies and purchasing additional copies at a wholesale price to sell at your online and retail store. For example: the estimated wholesale price per book is $38 (TBC) plus shipping. The recommended retail price is $69.99 per book. 

The book sale price, less cost, gives you $31.99 profit margin. Sell 72 books over the 2-year period of the book and you have more than covered the cost of participating.    

You can also bundle your books to be included as a value add in your premium experiences, products, giveaways, and promotions. 

Are books still a good investment? 

Print book sales in the US grew 34% over the past 10 years. 

The biggest category in print is adult non-fiction, accounting for 38% of all print book sales. 

The Australian book industry is in a strong position with annual sales of around 50-plus million books to a total value of close to one billion dollars. Independent bookstores represent just over 26 per cent of the print book market in Australia with chain and online-only stores representing around 44 per cent of the market. Discount department stores are the next great growth areas for bookselling with 29.8 per cent of the market at the moment.  Our marketing strategy includes promoting to all sectors.

The books will be listed on global online bookstores such as Amazon, Booktopia, and other leading marketplaces including USA, Canada, UK, Singapore and New Zealand.

Tourism Australia has embarked on a journey to transition from predominantly demographically defined and based target audiences across markets, to a global behavioural and attitudinal target audience. This transformation is underpinned by the development of the High Value Traveller (HVT) segment. The HVT segment have above-average trip expenditure. About NATALIE PICKETT, Founder of Wellness on Time 

Natalie is an entrepreneur and multiple international best-selling author of the best-selling Becoming an Unstoppable Woman series including lead author in the soon to be released book, Learning through pain – 25 holistic healing strategies for healing chronic pain.  She has more than 30 years’ experience as an entrepreneur, speaker, consultant and mentor in health, fitness, hospitality and tourism industries, working in Australia, US and Europe.
